Entry into the Challenge Cup categories is at the discretion of the organizing committee of the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival once you have notified us of your eligibility. Your request for consideration in the Challenge Cup categories must be listed on your Registration Form. Please list the Challenge Cup you would like to enter, plus the verification of your eligibility. For example: if entering the Calian Challenge Cup please list your Charitable Registration Number in the eligibility slot; if entering the Whole Body Healing Wellness Challenge Cup please list the wellness service you provide; etc. A Challenge Cup will only be run if there are three or more teams for that category.
Teams can only enter one Challenge Cup category.
If there are no more than five breast cancer survivor teams then the MEDIchair Breast Cancer Challenge Cup may be raced as a specific heat in the first set of races, just prior to the Memory Moment. The other Challenge Cups will be awarded on best time of the day. In the event of a tied time then the second best times of the tied teams will be taken into consideration.
Eligibility criteria:
- The Calian Challenge Cup
Open to teams from sectors of the Armed Forces. 50% of paddlers on the team must be currently serving members of the military.
- The Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce Small Business Challenge Cup
Open to teams registered from small businesses. The registered business name or title must be submitted to the Festival office
- The MEDIchair Breast Cancer Challenge Cup
Open to breast cancer survivor teams. Designation as a breast cancer survivor team must be noted on your registration form.
- The Moore Packaging Manufacturers Challenge Cup
Open to teams from companies and corporations that manufacture a product. Notify the Festival office of your finished product.
- The Barrie Public Library Charity Challenge Cup
Open to teams entered from a registered charity. The charitable registration number of the charity must be submitted to the Festival office
- The Barrie Construction Association Open Challenge Cup
If your team does not meet the criteria for any of our other Challenge Cups, then this is the cup for you! Teams who do not qualify for any other Barrie Dragon Boat Festival Challenge Cup are encouraged to register for the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) Open Challenge Cup.
- The Whole Body Healing Wellness Challenge Cup
Open to teams from organizations or businesses in the service area of wellness, i.e. hospital, dentistry, chiropractic, nursing home; etc. Notify the Festival office of the service you provide. Please call the Festival office if you need clarification.
