Community Awards
- Spirit Award
- Awarded to the team showing great team spirit throughout the event (Friday night Dragon’s Den and Saturday race day)
- Best Dressed Team Award
- Awarded to the best dressed team – judged throughout the event (Friday night Dragon’s Den and Saturday race day)
- Bruce Saunders Rookie Team of the Year Award
- This award honours the memory of Bruce Saunders who always gave so much of his time and talents encouraging and coaching teams here in Barrie, from our first year in 2003 through to 2008. Bruce always took great joy in introducing “newbies” to the sport
- Awarded to the brand new team showing such traits as enthusiasm and skill and joy on the water

Challenge Cups (Special thanks to all our challenge cup sponsors.)
- Awarded to the team who had the fastest race time of the day within that challenge grouping
- Teams must register to be in a Challenge Cup category

- Every team will fit into the criteria of at least one challenge cup category
- If your team fits more than one category then you must choose which to enter as each team can only enter one challenge cup
- The Challenge Cups are awarded to the winning teams for a period of one year and must be returned to the Festival by the following July, ready for the next Festival. Team name engraved on the appropriate plaque is arranged by the winning team.
- In addition the team receives 25 engraved medals
- Awards and criteria is as follows:
- The Barrie Construction Association Open Challenge Cup
- If your team does not meet the criteria for any of our other Challenge Cups, then this is the cup for you! Teams who do not qualify for any other Barrie Dragon Boat Festival Challenge Cup are encouraged to register for the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) Open Challenge Cup.
- The Calian Challenge Cup
- Open to teams from sectors of the Armed Forces. 50% of paddlers on the team must be currently serving members of the military
- The Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce Small Business Challenge Cup
- Open to teams registered from small businesses. The registered business name or title must be submitted to the Festival office
- The Anna Kwan Breast Cancer Challenge Cup
- Open to breast cancer survivor teams. Designation as a breast cancer survivor team must be noted on your registration form. (sponsored by MEDIchair)
- The Moore Packaging Manufacturers Challenge Cup.
- Open to teams from companies and corporations that manufacture a product. Notify the Festival office of your finished product
- The Whole Body Healing Wellness Challenge Cup
- Open to teams from organizations or businesses in the service area of wellness, i.e. hospital, dentistry, chiropractic, nursing home; etc. Notify the Festival office of the service you provide. Please call the Festival office if you need clarification.
- The Winning Colours Charity Challenge Cup
- Open to teams entered from a registered charity. The charitable registration number of the charity must be submitted to the Festival office

The Genesis II Barrie Champions Trophy
- This trophy is awarded each year to the Barrie based team which places highest in the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival. The trophy is awarded for a period of one year and must be returned to the Festival by the following July, ready for the next Festival
- In addition the winning team receives
- A keeper plaque
- 25 engraved medals

Divisional Awards
- We run 6 divisions of 10 teams each
- Platinum (top division)
- Gold
- Silver
- Bronze
- Copper
- Iron (bottom division)
- Each division has a top 5 group and a consolation group of 5
- In the highest division – Platinum – the awards are as follows
- First place: Platinum Division Champs
- Keeper Trophy, inscribed
- 25 engraved medals
- Second place: Platinum Division Second
- Keeper Trophy, inscribed
- 25 engraved medals
- Third place: Platinum Division Third
- Keeper Trophy, inscribed
- 25 engraved medals
- Platinum consolation group winner receives a plaque to keep

- In addition, the winners of the Platinum Division are declared the overall Festival winners and the team name is inscribed on the Festival Trophy. This trophy stays here in Barrie and is displayed permanently at the Library
- In all other divisions the divisional winners receive a keeper plaque and the consolation winners receive a smaller keeper plaque
